Weather permitting, sections of southbound Rolling Road (Route 638) in West Springfield will experience daytime lane closures on Saturday, March 22, and Saturday, March 29. This is part of the ongoing Rolling Road widening project, as announced by the Virginia Department of Transportation.

The scheduled lane closures are as follows:

– On March 22, from 9 a.m. to noon, the southbound lane between Kenwood Avenue and Taunton Place will be closed. Traffic will alternate each way in the northbound lane via flagging.
– On March 22 and again on March 29, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., the southbound right lane between Viola Street and Tanworth Drive/Hunter Village Drive will be closed.

The Rolling Road widening project involves expanding approximately one and a half miles of Rolling Road from two lanes to four. The expansion includes a raised median, shared-use path, and sidewalk between Viola Street and Kenwood Avenue. Additionally, a new traffic signal will be constructed at Rolling Road and Greeley Boulevard, while the existing signal at Rolling Road and Barnack Drive will be upgraded. The project also includes access management and stormwater improvements. Completion is expected in late 2027.

Drivers, bicyclists, and pedestrians are advised to exercise caution when traveling through active work zones. They should remain alert to new traffic patterns and minimize distractions.
