Radford University’s Jaslyne Robinson and Jaelynn Joiner were named recipients of the first Big South Women’s Track & Field Outdoor weekly awards of the season, according to a March 26 announcement. Robinson was selected as the track co-athlete of the week, while Joiner earned freshman of the week honors.

The recognition comes after both athletes delivered strong performances at the Big South vs. SoCon Challenge. Robinson, a senior, won the 400-meter hurdles with a personal best time of 1:00.12. She also finished second in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 14.00 seconds and contributed to Radford’s victory in the 4×400 meter relay, where her team set a new school record at 3:42.43. In total, Robinson scored 20.5 points for her conference—fifth most among all individual competitors at that meet—and her times ranked second and third best all-time in school history for their respective events.

Joiner set a new school record in the long jump with a leap of 6.22 meters (20 feet, five inches), winning that event as well. Her performance is now third best in Big South history and tied for fourth best this season among NCAA Division I athletes nationally. Additionally, she placed sixth in the 200-meter dash with a time of 25 seconds—eighth fastest ever recorded by an athlete from Radford.

This marks Robinson’s first career weekly award from the conference, while Joiner had previously been named Big South Freshman of the Week three times during indoor competition.

The Highlanders are scheduled to compete next at this weekend’s Davidson Relays at Irwin Belk Track inside Richardson Stadium.
