The Virginia Department of Transportation’s Lynchburg District has announced a weekly traffic alert covering March 31 to April 6, 2025. Planned highway work may be delayed or canceled due to weather or other unforeseen issues. For real-time updates, residents are advised to call 511 or visit the VDOT website.

The department has scheduled various improvement activities across the district, which include bridge and guardrail maintenance, cutting of brush, trees, and limbs, pothole repairs, surface treatment, paving operations, and other road maintenance services.

Specific projects of note include the bridge replacement on Route 613 (Spring Grove Road) in Appomattox County, which has closed the road to through traffic since February 10 and is expected to remain so until mid-April. In Charlotte County, the replacement of sidewalks and ADA ramps on Route 40 (David Bruce Avenue) and Route 47 (Legrande Avenue) in Charlotte Court House is ongoing until April 11, with expected sidewalk and lane closures.

Cumberland County’s Route 673 (Ligontown Road) is also under a bridge rehabilitation project with closures extending from Guinea Road to River Road, scheduled to complete mid-May. In Halifax County, Route 615 (Dudley Road) remains closed for bridge replacement, with a detour in place until April.

Route 128 (Candlers Mountain Road) in Lynchburg is set for bridge rehabilitation starting May 18, involving alternating lane closures until completion by July 1. Nelson County’s Route 653 (Wilson Road) bridge over the Norfolk Southern Railroad is closed, with reopening projected for November 2025.

Pittsylvania County’s Route 311 (Harville-Saunders Parkway) is open, with ongoing work expected to cause shoulder and lane closures, with overall completion anticipated by June 16.
