Highway work in the Lynchburg District will necessitate road, lane, and structure closures from June 9 to June 15, 2025. The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) has indicated that the schedule may be affected by weather or other unforeseen issues. For real-time updates, individuals are advised to call 511 or visit VDOT’s website.

Throughout the district, crews will conduct a range of maintenance activities including bridge and guardrail repairs, tree cutting, pothole repairs, surface treatments, paving operations, mowing, drainage work, and roadside cleanup.

In Cumberland County, Route 673 (Ligontown Road) is undergoing bridge rehabilitation and remains closed between Guinea Road and River Road with completion anticipated by late June 2025.

In Lynchburg City on Route 128 (Candlers Mountain Road), Phase 2 of bridge rehabilitation over the Norfolk Southern Railroad began on June 1. During this phase, there is an alternating lane closure with a single travel lane open. Exit 8B from Lynchburg Expressway onto Candlers Mountain Road is closed along with certain turns out of River Ridge Mall. Phase 3 will commence on June 11 allowing some turn restrictions to be lifted. Completion is expected by July 1.

Nelson County’s Route 653 (Wilson Road) bridge replacement over the Norfolk Southern Railroad continues with reopening expected in November 2025.

Pittsylvania County has two ongoing projects: Route 813 (Glenview Drive) remains closed for bridge repairs until June 13; while new road construction on Route 311 (Harville-Saunders Parkway) continues off-road with shoulder and lane closures anticipated through June 16.

In Prince Edward County, traffic on Route 628 (Germantown Road) is reduced to one lane due to work over Rte.15/460 Bypass with completion slated for October. Additionally, the bridge over Hunts Creek on Route 639 (Milbank Road) is closed to through traffic until June’s end.

The public should note these activities as they plan their travel routes within the affected areas.
