Richmond Spiders women’s lacrosse falls to James Madison, ending nine-game streak

The Richmond Spiders women’s lacrosse team lost to James Madison 14-9 at Robins Stadium on April 14, ending a nine-game winning streak.

The result brings Richmond’s record to 11-3 for the season, while James Madison improves to 9-6. The match was closely contested in the early stages, but James Madison took control after scoring three consecutive goals in the first quarter and maintained their lead throughout the game.

Alexis Morton and Juliana Stanley each contributed four points for Richmond with two goals and two assists apiece. Stella Axe scored twice and led the team with four draw controls. Meghan Rode, Charlotte Edwards, and Rileigh Meyer each added a goal. Chloe Conti provided an assist. On defense, CC Jacobs caused two turnovers and collected two ground balls.

Richmond scored first in the opening quarter before James Madison responded quickly. By halftime, the Dukes led 8-4 after outscoring Richmond in both quarters of the first half. In the second half, both teams exchanged goals but Richmond was unable to close the gap as James Madison maintained its advantage through consistent scoring.

Looking ahead, Richmond will host Davidson on Saturday for Senior Day at Robins Stadium at 3:30 p.m., marking their final home game of the regular season.
