The Richmond Spiders women’s golf team won its second consecutive Atlantic 10 Women’s Golf Championship, finishing with a commanding 28-stroke lead over Loyola Chicago on April 22. The entire Richmond lineup placed ahead of nearly all competitors in the field during the three-round event.
This victory marks back-to-back conference titles for Richmond and their third championship in four years, following their previous wins at the A-10 and Patriot League Championships. The team’s strong performance underscores a period of consistent success for the program.
Head coach Calle Barlow said, “I told them this morning they were prepared and I believed in them and they were here for a reason. We had some shaky spots, but they did really keep it together and kept making good choices.” Junior Maya Beasley led the way by winning medalist honors with a score of five-over-par (221) after rounds of 73, 72, and 76. “It just feels so awesome,” said Beasley. “We’ve been working all year for this one. The individual one is special, but the team one could not be more special. I’m just so happy for these girls. We’ve just put in so much work.”
Richmond maintained at least a 20-shot advantage throughout the final round despite some late bogeys on the last hole. Beasley added, “I think we just stuck to our plan. On this golf course anything can happen, so just take it one shot at a time. We knew our targets and we committed to those… I knew this team could do it, but we just worked so hard and made it so no one else could beat us here this week.”
Senior Olivia Wilkie finished third individually at fifteen-over-par (231), followed by senior Hannah Lydic in fourth place—both earning their second top-five finishes at conference championships. Sophomore Katie Magner and freshman Addie Doroh tied for fifth place; Doroh also shared the A-10 Most Outstanding Rookie Award.
Barlow praised her senior leaders: “My two seniors have been unbelievable… Good people, work hard, provide good examples for all the girls… that’s really special.” She also highlighted having representation from every class year: “It’s really cool to have somebody from each year of eligibility in this lineup… This team, four of them have been together for two of these championships, so it says a lot about their hard work and their commitment to Richmond.”
The Spiders will learn which NCAA Regional they will compete in during the NCAA Women’s Golf Selection Show on April 29.
