Richmond Spiders lose to Davidson in Atlantic 10 semifinal

The Richmond Spiders women’s lacrosse team lost 11-10 to Davidson in the Atlantic 10 semifinal on May 1. A late goal by Davidson secured their win and ended Richmond’s run in the tournament.

This loss brings Richmond’s overall record to 13-3, while Davidson improves to 13-4. The match was closely contested, with both teams exchanging leads throughout the game.

Juliana Stanley led Richmond with three goals and one assist, while Alexis Morton contributed a goal and two assists. Bridget Lonsinger scored twice, and Meghan Rode added a goal and an assist. Other scorers for Richmond included Rileigh Meyer, Stella Axe, and Emma Kroneberger. Defensively, CC Jacobs had two caused turnovers and two ground balls, while Rode led the team with eight draw controls. In goal, Abby Francioli made ten saves over sixty minutes of play.

Richmond held advantages in shots (28-26), draw controls (15-7), and saves (10-8). However, Davidson collected more ground balls with an 18-15 edge. The game began with three consecutive goals from Davidson before Richmond closed the gap by the end of the first quarter. Both teams traded scoring runs until they were tied at ten late in the fourth quarter. With five seconds left on the clock, Davidson scored after regaining possession following a save by their goalkeeper.

The Spiders now await word on whether they will receive an NCAA Tournament bid when selections are announced Sunday at 9 p.m.
