The Richmond Police Department announced on Apr. 28 that its 37th Community Academy has been rescheduled to take place in September.

The Community Academy is a free program aimed at helping residents understand police operations and strengthening partnerships between the police and the community.

Participants in the academy will learn about police interactions, procedures, traffic stops, suicide prevention, CPR and medical response. The program also covers awareness of child abuse, sex abuse, and domestic violence. Attendees will have an opportunity to get a behind-the-scenes look at public safety agencies. A graduation ceremony will be held upon completion of the academy.

Those interested in participating are encouraged to contact Jasmine Perez by phone or email for more information or to apply. The department said this is an opportunity for residents to connect with law enforcement and contribute to building a safer community.

Looking ahead, the Richmond Police Department said it hopes the program will foster better understanding between officers and citizens while empowering participants with valuable knowledge.
