The Richmond Police Department announced on April 16 that its command staff and Third Precinct officers participated in a community walk through the Carytown business corridor on April 15. The event began at 4:30 p.m. at 3201 West Cary Street.

The purpose of the walk was to engage with residents and business owners, offering crime prevention tips and listening to concerns about public safety. Lieutenant Michael Phibbs from Sector 311 joined other officers and public safety partners during the event, aiming to better understand the needs of those who live and work in the area.

During these interactions, participants discussed strategies for preventing shoplifting, theft from motor vehicles, and burglaries. Officers also provided suggestions for improvements in public safety based on feedback from residents and businesses.

This initiative is part of an ongoing series where Richmond Police Department command staff visit various city precincts to connect with citizens. According to the department, these walks are a longstanding tradition intended to foster open dialogue and build relationships that go beyond emergency response situations.

Media representatives were invited to attend the event. For more information, James Mercante from the RPD Office of Public Affairs can be contacted at (804) 363-9107.
