The University of Richmond men’s tennis team advanced to the Atlantic 10 Championship semifinals after defeating No. 4 seed George Mason with a score of 4-0 on Apr. 23 at the USTA National Campus in Orlando, Florida.

This win marks the fourth consecutive season that Richmond has reached the semifinal round, and improves their spring record to 15-8. The Spiders have now extended their winning streak to eight matches.

In doubles play, Richmond secured the first point with victories from Davis Wiley and Cole Brashear on court one (6-3), and Grant Cohen and Charlie Burdell on court three (6-4). Although George Mason won on court two, Richmond carried a lead into singles competition.

Cole Brashear was first off in singles with a commanding 6-2, 6-0 win at No. 6 singles. Dylan Atkinson followed with a straight-set victory (6-4, 6-4) at No. 4 singles, bringing Richmond closer to clinching the match. Otto Sewell then delivered the decisive point at No. 5 singles by winning his match 6-3, 6-3. Matches on courts one through three were left unfinished as Richmond had already secured enough points for victory.

With this result, several Spiders improved their individual records for the season: Davis Wiley stands at 15-5 in singles while Brashear/Wiley are now 16-4 as a doubles pairing.

Richmond will next face top-seeded VCU in the Atlantic 10 semifinal scheduled for Friday, April 24 at the USTA National Campus.
