A Richmond man has been sentenced to three years and ten months in prison after being found guilty of being a felon in possession of a firearm.
Court documents state that on January 11, 2025, Raheem Bennie Smith, also known as Too-Too, was discovered by a Richmond Police officer asleep at the wheel of a running vehicle at an intersection. The officer woke Smith by tapping on his window and asked him to put the car in park. During the interaction, the officer noticed a firearm on the front passenger seat and instructed Smith not to reach for it. Another officer then opened the passenger door and retrieved the loaded handgun before arresting Smith. Cocaine was also found in Smith’s pants.
Smith had previous convictions for possession of cocaine, eluding police, repeatedly driving with a suspended or revoked license, and second degree murder. As a result of these prior offenses, he is prohibited from possessing firearms or ammunition.
The case was investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives Washington Field Division along with the Richmond Police Department. Special Assistant U.S. Attorney Katherine E. Groover prosecuted the case.
