The Virginia Department of Transportation announced on May 15 that a forecast of road construction and possible delays in the Richmond District from May 16 to May 22, 2026, is now available. The schedule can be accessed through the Richmond District Weekly Traffic Alert for that week.

This update is important for drivers planning travel in the region, as it provides information about potential impacts from ongoing or upcoming road work. For those seeking real-time updates and additional details on current traffic conditions or construction zones, the department encourages use of its online resources and mobile app.

“For the most current traffic and road work information, visit 511Virginia at 511.vdot.virginia.gov or download the free 511Virginia app for mobile devices. Drivers can sign up to receive personalized traffic alerts and view traffic cameras through 511Virginia,” according to the release.

According to the official website, Virginia Department of Transportation manages one of the nation’s largest state highway systems with tens of thousands of lane-miles across Virginia. The agency also provides services such as highway maintenance, oversees land-use permits along state routes, manages traffic through systems like Virginia 511, and has its headquarters in Richmond.

The department originated from the State Highway Commission established in 1906 and has since expanded its responsibilities as transportation needs have grown across Virginia, according to its official website.
