Route 873, known as Renaissance Drive, in Frederick County is set to open to traffic on Friday, July 18. This two-lane road previously linked Route 11 and Route 1129. The newly constructed section extends westward from Prosperity Drive to Shady Elm Road and features an at-grade crossing of the CSX railway.
Frederick County oversees the Renaissance Drive extension project, which receives partial funding from the Virginia Department of Transportation’s Revenue Sharing program. A related change involves closing the railroad crossing on Route 649 starting July 18, resulting in dead ends on both sides of the rail line.
The eastern terminus of Renaissance Drive connects with Route 11 at a signalized intersection, while its western end forms a T-intersection with Shady Elm Road. Drivers should remain cautious due to changes in traffic patterns.
Dates for opening Renaissance Drive and closing the Route 649 railroad crossing may be adjusted based on weather conditions.
