The Radford softball team returned to winning form on March 27 as Dakota Redmon delivered a shutout and drove in two runs, leading the Highlanders to a 5-0 victory over Presbyterian.
This result is significant for Radford, which had been seeking momentum in their season. The strong pitching and timely hitting displayed in this game provided a boost for the team.
Both teams’ pitchers started strong, with no runs allowed through the first two innings. Redmon retired the first nine batters she faced and contributed offensively with a sacrifice fly in the third inning, giving Radford an early lead. She surrendered her only hit of the game in the fourth but maintained control throughout.
Radford extended its lead in the fifth inning when Redmon singled home another run after Amanda Lee walked and Klara Van Beuge added a pinch-hit single. The offense continued to produce insurance runs in the sixth inning: Amber Wolfe doubled, Layla Miles was hit by a pitch, and Lee doubled home two more runs before Hailey Scott capped off the scoring with another double.
Redmon finished her day by retiring three straight batters in both the sixth and seventh innings. In total, she allowed just one hit while striking out five and retiring 21 of 22 batters faced.
Looking ahead, Radford will aim to secure a series win against Presbyterian with a doubleheader scheduled for tomorrow afternoon at 1:00 p.m.
