On Tuesday, March 11, the ramp from George Washington Memorial Parkway to northbound I-495 in Virginia will be closed between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. This closure is part of the ongoing I-495 Express Lanes Northern Extension (495 NEXT) project and will allow crews to conduct tree clearing.

During this time, motorists traveling on north/westbound George Washington Memorial Parkway to northbound I-495 will need to follow a detour. The detour involves exiting GWMP to southbound I-495, taking Exit 44 to Georgetown Pike, turning left at the intersection onto eastbound Georgetown Pike, and then turning left again at the next intersection to access the on-ramp for northbound I-495.

In case of bad weather or other delays, the work may be rescheduled for Wednesday, March 12, or Thursday, March 13. Drivers are advised to exercise caution and anticipate potential delays when traveling through this area.

For traffic updates and information on work zones and incidents, check VA 511 online at 511.vdot.virginia.gov, use the mobile app, or call 511 from any phone in Virginia.
