The Big South Conference announced on March 12 that the Radford University women’s track and field team has been selected to finish third in the upcoming Outdoor Track & Field season, according to the league’s preseason poll.
This ranking comes after Radford secured a third-place finish at the recent Big South Indoor Track & Field Championships. All eight coaches participating in the poll voted for Radford to take third place, awarding the team 48 points—10 more than Gardner-Webb, which was picked fourth. High Point is favored to win the conference, receiving seven out of eight first-place votes, while Charleston Southern earned one first-place vote and is projected second.
The Highlanders’ roster features two-time indoor 400-meter Big South champion Jeylah Hamrick, who aims to continue breaking school and conference records during the outdoor season. Other athletes expected to contribute include seniors Raichelle Cornelius and Jordan Jackson, sophomore Mattie Flores, and freshman Jaelynn Joiner.
On the men’s side, Radford was picked eighth in its preseason poll as it returns to team competition for the first time since 2014.
The outdoor season for Radford begins later this month at the Big South vs. SoCon Challenge Meet in Asheville, North Carolina. The event will take place from Friday, March 20 through Saturday, March 21.
