The Radford Highlanders women’s lacrosse team lost 15-13 to Wofford in their regular season finale on April 25 at the SORC. The match was played in rainy conditions and saw Radford come close to an upset despite already being locked into the No. 5 seed for the upcoming Big South Tournament.

The result leaves the Highlanders with a final record of 4-13 overall and 3-5 in conference play. The game mattered as it showed Radford’s resilience, especially heading into postseason play.

Trailing by five goals at halftime, Radford rallied with five goals in the third period to tie the score at 10-10 and managed to even things up twice more before ultimately falling short. Cassidy Deierlein and Alyssa Yost each recorded hat tricks, with Deierlein earning her fourth three-goal game this season. Yost has scored four goals across three games since returning from injury on April 18. Maddy Driscoll contributed five assists, bringing her season total to 28—the third-most in program history—and placing her sixth all-time for career assists at Radford with a total of 37.

Hannah Hanger secured six draw controls, most during the second half which helped fuel Radford’s comeback efforts. Ava LaManna made nine saves during the match.

The game began with Molly O’Brien scoring early for Radford before Wofford took a lead that they would hold through much of the first half. Freshman Olivia Johnson scored her first goal of the season after a yellow card against Wofford, while Maggie Wisniewski and Evie Gee also contributed offensively for Radford throughout key moments of play.

With several tiebreakers still unresolved for tournament seeding below them, Radford will enter postseason play as the No. 5 seed and is set to compete in the first round on Tuesday, April 28 against an opponent yet to be determined at the site of the No. 4 seed.
