Carroll County, in partnership with the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT), is set to hold a citizen information meeting to discuss two proposed intersection improvement projects. The session will take place on Thursday, April 3, from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Carroll County Government Center located at 605 Pine Street in Hillsville.
The first project focuses on the intersection of Route 58 (Carrollton Pike) and Route 620 (Coulson Church Road). The second project involves the intersection of Route 100 (Sylvatus Highway) and Route 221 (Floyd Pike).
These projects have been submitted by Carroll County for funding consideration by the Commonwealth Transportation Board, which will make its decision in June. The meeting aims to gather public input before any funding and development proceed.
The proposed improvements at the intersection of Route 58 and Route 620 involve an innovative design called a Restricted Crossing U-turn (RCUT). This design would require vehicles that currently turn left onto Route 58 from Route 620 to instead make right turns followed by a U-turn.
At the intersection of Route 100 and Route 221, the proposal includes constructing a single-lane roundabout.
