The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT), in collaboration with localities, the Fredericksburg Area Metropolitan Planning Organization (FAMPO), and the George Washington Regional Commission (GWRC), is inviting public feedback on transportation studies for potential improvements at five locations in the Fredericksburg area.
Residents and travelers can participate by taking an online survey available until Wednesday, May 21. The survey covers specific areas including Fall Hill Avenue in Fredericksburg, Route 218 in King George County, Route 17 in Spotsylvania County, Mine Road in Stafford County, and Truslow Road with Route 17 and Stafford Plaza Drive.
Each study aims to develop recommendations for enhancing safety, operations, access, and facilities for bicyclists and pedestrians. These studies are part of the Project Pipeline program initiated by the Commonwealth Transportation Board (CTB). This program is a performance-based planning initiative designed to identify cost-effective solutions to multimodal transportation needs across Virginia. It is led by Virginia’s Office of Intermodal Planning and Investment (OIPI) alongside VDOT and the Virginia Department of Rail and Public Transportation (DRPT).
The studies are projected to be completed by summer 2026 but do not include construction timelines. They will propose projects and strategies that could qualify for funding through programs like SMART SCALE, Revenue Sharing, and the Virginia Highway Safety Improvement Program (HSIP), along with regional and local sources.
