The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) is inviting public input on a proposed plan to create a shared use path along Route 33, also known as General Puller Highway, in Middlesex County. This initiative aims to enhance pedestrian and bicycle accommodations in the area.

An in-person design public hearing is scheduled for Thursday, June 5, 2025, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Deltaville Community Association Community Center located at 17147 General Puller Highway, Deltaville, VA. In case an alternate date is necessary, the hearing will take place on Wednesday, June 11, 2025, at the same location and time.

Attendees are welcome to visit anytime during the hearing hours to review displays and discuss any questions with VDOT staff. The meeting will be conducted in an open house format.

Project materials can be viewed online where comments can also be submitted via an online survey. Feedback on the project will be accepted both during the public hearing and afterward until Monday, June 16. Comments can be emailed to fred.comments@vdot.virginia.gov with “Deltaville Multimodal Project” referenced in the subject line or mailed directly to Ms. Anastasia Kapitan, VDOT Project Manager at 87 Deacon Road, Fredericksburg, VA 22405.

The $3.2 million project plans include constructing a shared use path stretching from the Middlesex County Volunteer Rescue Squad to Greens Cove Road. This path will connect various marinas along Route 33 with Deltaville and the Deltaville Maritime Museum while maintaining access for residents and businesses during construction.

Funding for this project comes through the Transportation Alternatives Program. The bidding process for construction is expected to begin in December 2027 with work anticipated to start by March 2028.
