The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) is inviting public comments on a project to modify the intersection of Route 33 and Route 678 in King and Queen County. An in-person design public hearing will be held on June 24, 2025, from 5-7 p.m. at West Point High School’s W.T. RobinsonSture G. Olsson Civic Auditorium in West Point, VA. If necessary, a backup date is set for June 26, 2025.

Attendees can review displays and proposed plans and discuss questions with VDOT staff during the open house format event. Project materials are also available online, where an identical survey form allows for comment submission until July 5.

Comments can be mailed to Mr. David Beardsley, Project Manager, or emailed to fred.comments@vdot.virginia.gov with “Route 33 and Route 678 Intersection Improvements” as the subject line.

The project aims to convert the current crossing into a restricted crossing U-turn (RCUT) intersection to enhance safety by reducing potential collision points. The plan includes prohibiting through movements and left turns out from Centerville Road and extending the right turn lane from Route 33 westbound onto Centerville Road.

Construction bidding is scheduled for December 2026.
