The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) is inviting public participation in the discussion of a proposed safety enhancement project at the intersection of Route 301, Route 607, and Route 625 in King George County. An in-person design public hearing is scheduled for July 9, 2025, from 5 to 7 p.m. at King George High School. In case of bad weather, the meeting will be moved to July 16 at the same location and time.

Attendees can review project plans, ask questions, and provide feedback during the hearing. A brief presentation will occur at 5:15 p.m. For those unable to attend, project materials are available online along with an option to submit comments via an online survey or by email to fred.comments@vdot.virginia.gov with “Route 301 at Port Conway” as the subject line. Comments may also be mailed to Mr. David Beardsley, P.E., PTOE, Project Manager.

The deadline for submitting comments is Saturday, July 19.

The $3.2 million project aims to improve safety by converting the current crossover into a restricted crossing U-turn (RCUT) intersection. This design reduces potential collision points by altering traffic patterns where side street traffic must turn right and make a U-turn at a designated median opening before proceeding in their desired direction.
