The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) is inviting public input on a proposed project to widen Route 17 in Gloucester County. The plan aims to expand the current four-lane road to six lanes between Lafayette Heights Road and Tidemill Road, incorporating pedestrian improvements.
An in-person design public hearing will be held on Monday, June 30, from 5-7 p.m. at the Virginia Institute of Marine Science (VIMS), Davis Hall, located at 7539 Spencer Road, Gloucester Point, VA. If necessary, a backup date is scheduled for Monday, July 7, at the same location and time.
The proposed project has an estimated cost of $40.3 million and intends to enhance capacity and mobility along the Route 17 corridor. This section of the road currently accommodates an average of 30,000 vehicles daily.
Interested parties can access project materials online and submit their comments via an online survey. Comments can also be emailed to fred.comments@vdot.virginia.gov with “Route 17 widening” in the subject line or mailed to Mr. Byrd Holloway, VDOT Senior Project Manager, at 87 Deacon Road, Fredericksburg, VA 22405.
Feedback will be accepted during the public hearing and until Thursday, July 10.
