The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT), together with Lancaster County, the Town of Kilmarnock, and the Northern Neck Planning District Commission, has scheduled a public information meeting to discuss proposed improvements from two ongoing transportation studies in Lancaster County.

The meeting will take place on Tuesday, December 2, 2025, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Lancaster Elementary School in Kilmarnock. In case of bad weather, the meeting will be moved to December 3 at the same location and time.

One of the studies focuses on Route 3 between Hawthorne Avenue and School Street within Kilmarnock. The other study looks at Route 200 from Old Saint Johns Road to Harris Road, which is southwest of the town limits.

According to VDOT, “The purpose of both studies is to develop concepts for future funding applications. Draft concepts for potential future projects are now being presented for public comment before the study reports are finalized. These studies do not propose timelines for construction for any potential future improvements.”

Both projects are part of VDOT’s Strategically Targeted Affordable Roadway Solutions (STARS) program.

VDOT noted that community feedback collected through online surveys earlier in 2025 was used by study teams to identify current issues along these corridors and create recommendations for possible changes.

As these studies move into their next phase, the public is encouraged to review materials and provide feedback on the proposed improvements at the upcoming meeting. Meeting materials and an online survey will also be available starting December 2 through December 16 for those unable to attend in person.
