The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) has scheduled a design public hearing for August 19 to discuss a proposed roundabout project at the intersection of Route 230 (Orange Road) and Route 231 (S. Blue Ridge Turnpike) in Madison County.
According to VDOT, the plan involves reconstructing the current unsignalized intersection into a four-leg, single-lane roundabout. The project is intended to improve safety and traffic flow by reducing potential crash points and lowering vehicle speeds. In addition, nearby entrances will be converted to right-in/right-out access, and an existing slip ramp will be removed. Multiple detour options related to the construction will be presented during the hearing for public review and feedback.
The hearing will take place from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at Renback Barn, located at 8668 S. Blue Ridge Turnpike in Rochelle, Virginia. If inclement weather causes a postponement, the event will move to August 26 at the same time and location.
“The public may provide oral comments regarding the proposed project at the hearing. Written comments may be submitted by August 29, 2025, to David Cubbage, Project Manager, Virginia Department of Transportation, 1601 Orange Road, Culpeper, VA 22701, or email them to david.cubbage@vdot.virginia.gov. Please reference ‘Pratts Roundabout Comment’ in the subject line.”
