The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) has scheduled a public hearing to discuss design plans aimed at improving traffic flow and safety on Route 11 (Lee Highway) in Bristol. The focus area for these improvements stretches between Alexis Drive and Old Airport Road.
The hearing is set for Monday, June 7, from 4 to 7 p.m. It will be held at Virginia Intermediate School, located at 350 Van Pelt Circle. The meeting will follow an open house/drop-in format.
The project proposes several enhancements, including widening Route 11 to two lanes in each direction and adding turn lanes at four signalized intersections. A raised median will be installed between the northbound and southbound lanes to enhance traffic flow and safety. Additionally, there are plans for improvements at the intersections along with the construction of new sidewalks, crosswalks, and pedestrian signals.
