The Virginia Department of Transportation announced on Apr. 27 that the public is invited to provide feedback on a proposed project to build bicycle and pedestrian facilities along Route 1 in the City of Fredericksburg and Spotsylvania County.
The initiative aims to improve access for cyclists and pedestrians between Harrison Road in Spotsylvania County and Idlewild Boulevard in Fredericksburg. The proposal includes a shared use path, sidewalks, share-the-road signs, pavement markings, a new pedestrian bridge over Hazel Run parallel to Route 1, and updated crossing signals at Kings Mill Drive and Idlewild Boulevard.
An in-person design public hearing is scheduled for Tuesday, May 5 from 5-7 p.m. at Lafayette Elementary School in Fredericksburg. If needed, a backup session will be held Thursday, May 7 at the same time and location. Attendees can review displays, discuss plans with Virginia Department of Transportation staff, and submit comments during the event or afterwards through Saturday, May 16 by email or mail.
