Prince George County officials announced on April 28 that all non-emergency phone lines at the Emergency Communications Center were experiencing a complete outage. The county said staff are working to resolve the issue and advised residents needing to report non-emergency Police, Fire, or EMS incidents to call 804-722-8778 until service is restored.
The county emphasized that this outage does not affect emergency services. Residents should continue to dial 911 for emergencies. “This outage does not impact 911 services. Residents should continue to dial 911 in the event of a true emergency,” the statement said.
The announcement comes as Prince George County Public Schools District enrolled a total of 6,181 students during the 2023-24 school year, according to the Virginia Department of Education. Prince George High School had the highest enrollment among the seven schools in the county with 1,818 students enrolled during that period according to state data.
Demographic information from the Virginia Department of Education shows white students made up the largest ethnic group in county schools with 2,765 students (44.7% of enrollment), followed by Black students at 1,880 (30.4%). Total enrollment increased by about 1.2% compared to last year’s figure of 6,106 students according to official statistics.
Among elementary schools in Prince George County for pre-kindergarten and kindergarten classes during the same school year, North Elementary School enrolled both the largest number of pre-kindergarten students—46 children accounting for nearly one-third (27.7%)—and kindergarteners—119 children making up just over one-quarter (25.1%)—of all such students in local public schools as reported by state records.
County staff continue efforts to restore full telephone service for non-emergencies while ensuring residents can reach critical emergency assistance without interruption.
