The Prince George County Board of Supervisors announced on April 27 that residents who are unable to attend the April 28 meeting in person can participate electronically during the public comment and public hearing periods. The county provided a Microsoft Teams link for this purpose, specifying that it is intended only for those wishing to speak and not for general viewing of the meeting.
This option allows more residents to take part in local government proceedings even if they cannot be physically present. The county emphasized that those interested in simply watching the Board of Supervisors meeting should use its Live Streaming and Video Archive page instead.
Prince George County Public Schools District, which is the only school district in Prince George County, enrolled 6,181 students during the 2023-24 school year, according to the Virginia Department of Education. Among these schools, Prince George High School had the highest enrollment with 1,818 students during that same period as reported by the Virginia Department of Education.
Demographic data from the Virginia Department of Education shows white students made up the largest ethnic group in county schools at 44.7%, totaling 2,765 students; Black students followed with 1,880 enrolled or about 30.4% of total enrollment. Overall student numbers rose by about 1.2% compared to last year’s total enrollment as indicated by the same source.
For younger children in Prince George County schools during the past academic year, North Elementary School enrolled both the largest number of pre-kindergarten students (46) and kindergarteners (119), accounting for over a quarter of each age group respectively according to data from state education officials.
The availability of an electronic participation link reflects ongoing efforts by local authorities to make civic engagement accessible while also accommodating community members’ needs.
