Virginia Governor Glenn Youngkin has directed the Virginia State Police to initiate a criminal investigation into allegations that Fairfax County Public Schools staff facilitated abortions for minors without parental consent. According to the governor’s office, the accusations suggest that school officials may have used public funds—potentially from local, state, or federal sources—to finance these procedures.
“Governor Youngkin begins a criminal inquiry into the behavior of Fairfax County public schools, and the allegations are simply horrific,” said Steve Cortes, Founder. “If public school employees hid abortion procedures from parents of minors, it is outrageous. If they further used public funds to actually pay for those secret abortions, then serious crimes were involved.”
“I am deeply concerned with the allegations that Fairfax County Public Schools officials arranged for minors to get abortions without parental consent and may have misused public funds to pay for them. I am directing the Virginia State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation to open a full criminal investigation into the matter immediately,” said Governor Youngkin in a statement.
Fairfax County Public Schools has launched its own investigation into these claims. Superintendent Michelle Reid said such actions are “unacceptable,” though current policy does not require staff to inform parents when a student inquires about abortion, as reported by ABC7News. Reports indicate involvement of multiple students, including a 17-year-old at Centreville High School, with school administrators potentially aware of the arrangements.
According to the Washington Free Beacon, two former Centreville High School students allege that in 2021, Fairfax County Public Schools staff arranged and paid for their abortions without parental consent, contravening Virginia’s parental-notification law. One student claimed that school social worker Carolina Díaz scheduled her abortion at the Fairfax Healthcare Center and covered the cost. Another student was reportedly told she had “no other choice” but to terminate her pregnancy while five months pregnant. Both allege Principal Chad Lehman was aware of the procedures and that taxpayer funds were used.
Steve Cortes, Founder of League of American Workers and senior political advisor to CatholicVote, described these allegations as “outrageous.” Cortes is also known as a former senior advisor to President Trump and JD Vance and serves as a commentator for Fox News and CNN.
