A section of Route 748 (Clinchburg Road) in Washington County has been closed to through traffic due to concerns about the structural integrity of the Salt Trail trestle that crosses above the road. The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) announced the closure on Tuesday, August 12.

The affected portion of Route 748 is located less than a quarter mile from the intersection with Route 745 (Old Saltworks Road) and about 1.25 miles from Route 750 (Old Mill Road).

According to VDOT, “Due to the failing structural integrity of the Salt Trail trestle located above Route 748 (Clinchburg Road) in Washington County, the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) closed a portion of the road beneath the trestle today (Tuesday, August 12).”

No additional details were provided regarding when repairs might begin or when the road may reopen.
