Weather permitting, Popes Head Road in Fairfax will experience lane restrictions from July 21 to July 24 due to ongoing work related to the Fairfax County Parkway and Popes Head Road interchange project. According to the Virginia Department of Transportation, flagging operations will take place between 6 a.m. and 4 p.m. each day.

The project aims to replace the current traffic signal with an interchange featuring triple roundabouts, which will facilitate smoother traffic flow through two new bridges over Fairfax County Parkway. Additional developments include a segment of the future Shirley Gate Road extension, a shared-use path connecting the Fairfax County Parkway Trail to Patriot Park, reconstruction of the trail itself, installation of a sidewalk along Popes Head Road’s north side, and extending Ladues End Lane.

Completion is anticipated by late 2026. Travelers are urged to exercise caution in work zones and stay informed about traffic updates via VDOT’s resources.
