The Atlantic 10 Conference announced on Apr. 22 that two VCU Rams athletes, Philip Daniel and Presten Augustin, have received weekly track and field awards. Daniel was named Men’s Field Performer of the Week, while Augustin earned Men’s Rookie of the Week honors. Both athletes have now won these awards in each of the last two weeks, with Augustin securing Rookie of the Week for a third consecutive time.
These recognitions highlight ongoing achievements by both competitors during the current season. Daniel, a senior who was also named to the All-Academic team after the indoor season, set a program record with a triple jump distance of 15.92 meters—ranking him nineteenth in Division I nationally and first within the Atlantic 10 Conference this year. This marks his fourth time breaking the triple jump program record during the 2026 season.
Daniel shares recognition in this event with junior Isaiah-Taji Kargbo-Owens, who also set an unaided program record at 15.78 meters over the weekend; together they currently hold titles as program record holders for triple jump events under different conditions.
Augustin continues to build his resume as well, winning A-10 Rookie of the Week for a fourth time in 2026 after capturing victory in the 400-meter hurdles at the Virginia Challenge with a personal-best time of 51.63 seconds—the fastest mark in conference competition this year and third best all-time for VCU’s program history. The Palm Beach Gardens native has also established top-10 marks for both hurdle events this season and previously earned bronze at indoor championships while contributing to VCU’s gold medal relay team.
After taking last weekend off from competition, VCU Rams track and field will return on Saturday, May 3rd to compete at George Mason University during the A-10 Outdoor Championships where both Daniel and Augustin are expected to vie for further medals.
