Route 601, known as Penola Road, in Caroline County experienced a closure due to a drainage pipe failure. The section affected was between Route 301 and the Barns at Mattaponi.

The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) provided a recommended detour for motorists, which included using Route 301, Bowling Green Bypass, Route 207, and then back onto Route 601.

An update was issued on March 24, 2025, at 6:02 p.m., stating that the road had reopened after crews completed emergency repairs. Consequently, the detour has been lifted.
