The George Mason Patriots defeated William & Mary 15-14 in a high-scoring baseball game on May 5 at Plumeri Park in Williamsburg, Virginia. The victory came during the final regular season non-conference matchup for both teams.

The result is significant as it marks a strong offensive showing for the Patriots, who improved their record to 23-23 overall and 13-11 in Atlantic 10 play. Eight different players scored at least one run and eight drove in at least one run, highlighting a team effort at the plate.

Redshirt-sophomore catcher Jack McCarthy led the offense with four hits, including his first home run as a Patriot, and drove in five runs. Junior right fielder Matthew Westley added three hits and two runs batted in while graduate student center fielder Luciano Terilli reached base four times and scored twice. The Patriots jumped out to an early lead by sending ten batters to the plate and scoring six runs with two outs in the first inning.

William & Mary responded with twelve runs of their own in the bottom of the first but could not hold off repeated rallies from George Mason. The Patriots regained control by scoring four runs on two hits and capitalizing on errors in the fourth inning to take a one-run lead. Pitching duties were shared among six George Mason pitchers, with graduate student Carter Kelsey earning his second win of the season after tossing two scoreless innings. Graduate student Diego Cardenas recorded his second save.

For William & Mary, seven pitchers appeared throughout the contest. Sophomore reliever Jack Weight took the loss after surrendering two runs on four hits across just over two innings pitched.

Looking ahead, George Mason will travel to Dayton for a three-game series beginning Friday afternoon.
