George Mason softball lost to Loyola Chicago by a score of 10-6 at GMU Softball Stadium on April 26. The Patriots made a five-run comeback attempt in the fifth inning but could not overcome the Ramblers’ steady offense, which included a four-run third inning.

The game was the last of a three-game series against Loyola Chicago. George Mason had won the first game 10-4 and lost the second 3-1, making them only the third team this season in the Atlantic 10 Conference to take a win from Loyola Chicago.

Loyola opened scoring with Liz Sedakis hitting a double that brought Averi Vander Woude home. Logan Pickford answered for George Mason with a solo home run, tying it at one after the first inning. In the third, Sedakis drove in two more runs and Alli Pawlowicz hit a two-run homer for Loyola, giving them a lead they would not give up.

The Ramblers added runs in both the fourth and fifth innings to make it an 8-1 game. The Patriots responded with five runs of their own in the bottom of the fifth: Pickford walked, Elyssa DeRosa and Alyssa Hopkins singled to load bases, Maddie Lemasters reached on an error that scored two runs, Abbey Lane delivered a two-RBI single, and Kamryn Inman added another RBI single.

Despite closing within two runs after their rally, George Mason could not hold back Loyola’s offense late. The Ramblers scored twice more in the seventh for insurance. Abbey Lane pitched nearly four innings for George Mason and also went three-for-three at bat with her best hitting performance this season.

George Mason will finish its regular season on May 2 and May 3 with games against Rhode Island.
