Construction at the Interstate 95 interchange at exit 126 in Spotsylvania will result in overnight closures of the I-95 northbound off-ramp to Route 1 southbound next week. The closure will begin Monday, March 9, and continue through early Friday, March 13. Each night, the ramp will close at 10 p.m. and reopen by 4 a.m.
During these hours, drivers traveling northbound on I-95 who wish to reach Route 1 southbound are advised to use alternate interchanges at exit 118 (Thornburg) or exit 130 (Route 3). The I-95 northbound off-ramp to Route 1 northbound (exit 126A) will remain open throughout the construction period. Message boards will be placed along the route to alert motorists about the upcoming ramp closure.
The ongoing $42 million project aims to improve traffic flow and safety at the exit 126 interchange. Planned improvements include adding an auxiliary lane on I-95 northbound near exit 126, widening Route 1 for a second left turn lane onto both I-95 directions, expanding the I-95 on-ramps at the intersection, and constructing two noise barriers along I-95 southbound.
