Construction work at the Interstate 95 interchange at exit 126 in Spotsylvania will require the closure of the northbound off-ramp to Route 1 southbound overnight. The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) announced that the ramp will be closed from midnight to 4 a.m. on Thursday, October 9.

During this period, drivers traveling northbound on I-95 who need to access Route 1 southbound are advised to use alternate interchanges at exit 118 (Thornburg) or exit 130 (Route 3). The off-ramp to Route 1 northbound (exit 126A) will remain open.

The closure is part of a $42 million project aimed at improving the exit 126 interchange. Planned improvements include adding an auxiliary lane on I-95 northbound near exit 126, widening Route 1 to provide a second left turn lane onto both directions of I-95, expanding the I-95 on-ramps at the intersection, and constructing two noise barriers along I-95 southbound. The project is scheduled for completion in September 2027.

VDOT encourages motorists to check 511Virginia for updates regarding the ramp closure and other traffic information. Travelers can call 511 within Virginia, use the free mobile app for Apple and Android devices, or visit the website for real-time details on traffic conditions and work zones.
