The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) has announced changes to the planned traffic disruptions on the U.S. 29/250 Bypass at the Route 601 (Old Ivy Road) bridge in Albemarle County. This update is part of an ongoing project to replace the Old Ivy Road bridge.
Initially, full overnight closures were scheduled for Friday, June 13, and Saturday, June 14. These have now been postponed. However, intermittent overnight stoppages will continue as planned from Monday through Thursday next week.
From June 9 through June 12, drivers should expect brief traffic stoppages lasting up to 15 minutes between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m. during these nights. Flagging teams will be present to direct traffic during these periods. VDOT advises drivers to exercise caution in the work zone and adhere to all traffic controls.
The replacement of the Old Ivy Road bridge is necessary due to structural deficiencies in the original structure built in 1961. The project commenced on February 3 and is projected for completion by July 2026.
Further details about this project can be found on VDOT’s website at vdot.virginia.gov/projects/culpeper-district/route-601-old-ivy-road-albemarle-county.
