The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) will carry out a series of overnight closures on Route 665 (Garth Run Road) in Madison County to rehabilitate the bridge over Garth Run. The bridge, which is situated 0.6 mile north of Route 718 (Wallace Gap Lane), will be closed to through traffic during the following periods: Monday, March 30 through Thursday, April 2 from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.; Tuesday, April 7 from 9 p.m. to 8 a.m.; and Wednesday, April 8 from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.

According to VDOT, crews will remove the existing bridge superstructure and install a new concrete superstructure along with an asphalt riding surface. The current bridge was built in 1940 and has a posted weight limit of 15 tons. After rehabilitation is complete, the structure will support all legal loads.

“Motorists are advised to use caution near the work area. All work is weather permitting.”

Residents can find local updates about conditions in VDOT’s Culpeper District on X.com/VaDOTCulp and the Culpeper District Facebook page.

VDOT manages one of the largest state highway systems in the country, covering tens of thousands of lane-miles across Virginia (official website). The agency’s responsibilities include building, maintaining and operating roads, bridges and tunnels to ensure safe and efficient transportation (official website). VDOT also provides services such as highway maintenance and traffic management through platforms like Virginia 511 (official website).

Current traffic conditions are available on the 511 Virginia website, via the free VDOT 511 mobile app or by calling 511 within Virginia.
