On Thursday night, October 30, the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) will close the southbound-running 95 Express Lanes between the exit for Dale Boulevard and the exit for Route 234/Dumfries/Manassas in Dale City. The closure is scheduled to allow geotechnical work related to the Neabsco Creek bridge project.

According to VDOT, “The left lane of the southbound-running 95 Express Lanes just before the exit for Dale Boulevard will be closed from 9:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 30.” Following this partial closure, “The southbound-running 95 Express Lanes will be fully closed from 10 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 30, to 1 a.m. Friday, Oct. 31.”

During this time period, ramps at Opitz Boulevard and from southbound I-95 general purpose lanes around mile marker 156.5 will also be inaccessible. Traffic using the southbound Express Lanes will be diverted onto the general purpose lanes via a flyover ramp near Dale Boulevard and can re-enter after passing Telegraph Road in Stafford County.

From 1 a.m. to 3 a.m., there will be an additional closure as part of routine operations to reverse traffic flow on the Express Lanes from southbound to northbound use. VDOT states that “the Neabsco Creek work zone will be cleared from the roadway by the time the 95 Express Lanes begin running northbound at 3 a.m.”

This geotechnical work is part of early preparations for construction on the I-95 southbound bridge over Neabsco Creek, which is planned to begin in mid-2027.

Drivers are advised by VDOT: “Drivers are reminded to use caution when traveling in active work zones. Be alert to new traffic patterns and limit distractions.”
