The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) has announced a temporary closure of the southbound-running 95 Express Lanes in Dale City on the night of Thursday, October 2, for geotechnical work related to the Neabsco Creek bridge project.
According to VDOT, “On Thursday night, Oct. 2, weather permitting, the southbound-running 95 Express Lanes will be closed between the exit for Dale Boulevard (Route 784 to Dale City/Rippon Landing/rest area) and the exit for Route 234/Dumfries/Manassas) for Neabsco Creek bridge-related geotechnical work.”
The left lane just before the Dale Boulevard exit will close from 9:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. The full closure of the southbound-running lanes is scheduled from 10 p.m. Thursday until 1 a.m. Friday, October 3. During this period, several ramps will also be inaccessible:
– Opitz Boulevard (Route 2000) ramp to the southbound Express Lanes
– Southbound I-95 general purpose lanes ramp to the Express Lanes near mile marker 156.5
Traffic from the closed Express Lanes will be redirected onto the general purpose lanes via a flyover ramp at Dale Boulevard. Drivers can re-enter the Express Lanes through another flyover ramp located past Telegraph Road in Stafford County, approximately one and a half miles beyond Russell Road.
Afterward, there will be an additional closure from 1 a.m. to 3 a.m. on Friday for regular reversal operations from southbound to northbound traffic flow. VDOT states that “the Neabsco Creek work zone will be cleared from the roadway by the time the 95 Express Lanes begin running northbound at 3 a.m. Friday, Oct. 3.”
This geotechnical work is part of preparations for an upcoming project on I-95 over Neabsco Creek, with construction expected to start in mid-2027.
VDOT reminds drivers to exercise caution in active work zones and stay alert for new traffic patterns.
