The Virginia Department of Transportation announced on Apr. 6 that Route 7656 (Old Otterdale Road) will be closed between U.S. 60 (Midlothian Parkway) and Little Hawk Drive/Route 667 (Otterdale Woods Road) in Chesterfield County beginning at 7 a.m. Monday, April 13, through summer of 2026. The closure is required for roadway improvements by permit holder Windswept Development, LLC, which include new signals, road widening and the construction of a roundabout.

This temporary closure affects local traffic and requires drivers to follow posted detour routes. Westbound travelers are advised to use the Midlothian Turnpike to reach Otterdale Woods Road, while eastbound drivers should also use Otterdale Woods Road as their detour route.

Questions regarding the improvements can be directed to Windswept Development, LLC. For real-time updates or information about road conditions during the project period, residents are encouraged to check Virginia’s traffic management system at 511Virginia, available online, via mobile app or by calling 511 from any phone within Virginia.

According to the official website, the Virginia Department of Transportation is responsible for building, maintaining and operating roads, bridges and tunnels across the state with an emphasis on safety and efficiency. The department manages one of the nation’s largest state highway systems covering tens of thousands of lane-miles across Virginia.

The agency also provides services such as highway maintenance and land-use permit oversight along state routes while managing traffic through systems like Virginia 511 according to its official website. VDOT oversees planning, construction and maintenance activities statewide from its headquarters at 1221 East Broad Street in Richmond according to VDOT.
