Old Dominion women’s tennis to face James Madison in conference quarterfinals

Old Dominion University women’s tennis team will play against James Madison University in the Sun Belt Conference Tournament Quarterfinal, according to an announcement on Apr. 23. The match is scheduled for Friday, April 24 at 10 a.m. in Rome, Georgia and will be part of the TowneBank Royal Rivalry series.

This quarterfinal matchup holds significance as both teams look to advance further in the tournament and add points toward their rivalry standings. Fans will have access to live statistics and streaming during the event.

Old Dominion enters the match with a season record of 10-5 after securing a close win over Richmond, finishing 4-3 in their last regular season contest. Earlier this month, Old Dominion defeated James Madison with a score of 4-1 when they played at home in Norfolk. Kira Matushkina leads Old Dominion’s singles lineup, ranking No. 103 nationally by ITA and holding a personal record of 6-7 this season. In doubles competition, Lidiia Rasskouskaia and Ulyana Romanova have achieved an impressive record of 11-5 from court three.

James Madison comes into the quarterfinals following a decisive 4-0 victory over Coastal Carolina on Thursday and currently holds a season record of 12-10. Ariel Avidan has been leading singles play for James Madison with a personal record of 10-7 while also pairing with Daria Munteanu for a doubles mark of 12-6.

The outcome of Friday’s match will determine which team advances further into the Sun Belt Conference Tournament as well as contribute to ongoing rivalry standings between Old Dominion and James Madison.
