Old Dominion women’s tennis defeats James Madison to reach Sun Belt semifinals

The Old Dominion University women’s tennis team advanced to the Sun Belt Conference semifinals after defeating James Madison University 4-0 on April 24 in Rome, Georgia.

The win moves Old Dominion into the next round of the conference tournament, underscoring their strong performance this season and their continued pursuit of a conference title.

In doubles play, Kira Matushkina and Victoria Matasova secured a victory over Brooklyn Hoffmann and Corinna Rietmann with a score of 6-2. Ulyana Romanova and Lidiia Rasskouskaia then clinched the doubles point for Old Dominion by defeating Sophie Williams and Mia Saveljic 6-4. The third doubles match between Marina Markina/Uladzislava Manzhos and Daria Munteanu/Ariel Avidan was suspended with James Madison leading 5-2.

During singles competition, Marina Markina defeated Anna Kantor 6-1, 6-3 on court six. Lidiia Rasskouskaia followed with a win over Sophie Williams (6-2, 6-1) on court five. Uladzislava Manzhos secured the match for Old Dominion by beating Brooklyn Hoffmann (6-4, 6-3) on court four. Matches involving Kira Matushkina, Victoria Matasova, and Ulyana Romanova were suspended before completion.

Old Dominion is scheduled to face Arkansas State in the semifinal round at 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 24.

The result highlights Old Dominion’s depth across both singles and doubles play as they continue their run in the Sun Belt Conference tournament.
