Old Dominion University announced on May 14 that its women’s sailing team will travel to St. Petersburg, Florida, for the Inter-Collegiate Sailing Association (ICSA) Women’s Fleet Race National Championship. The event is hosted by South Florida and will take place from May 15-18 at the SkyBeach Resort.
The competition brings together 36 schools, with Old Dominion entering as the 17th seed. Stanford holds the top seed in this year’s championship. Cornell and Georgetown represent MAISA as automatic qualifiers, earning the sixth and seventh seeds respectively.
According to Old Dominion, twelve teams have qualified automatically for the event. Races are scheduled to begin at 9:30 a.m., with semifinals set for May 15-16 and finals on May 17-18. Attendance is free, and members of the public can watch from SkyBeach Resort. An award ceremony will follow after racing concludes on Monday.
In recent events leading up to nationals, Old Dominion finished ninth at the America Trophy in 2026 and eighth at the MAISA Women’s Team Race Championship. The Monarchs also placed third out of fifteen schools at the MAISA Women’s Fleet Race Championship on March 28, second out of eighteen programs at St. Mary’s Women’s Inter-Conference on March 14, and first out of five schools at Diamondback Women’s Fleet Race on March 7.
Sophomore skipper Marina Conde earned First Team Skipper honors while junior crew Molly Hanson was named Second Team Crew for All-MAISA this season. Additionally, five Monarch sailors—Gianna Dewey, Emil Body-Goldberg, Blake Goodwin, Cadence Goodnight, and Kristin Johnson—were selected for the ICSA All-Academic Team.
