Old Dominion University’s women’s golf team ended its run in the Sun Belt Championship with a semifinal loss to top-seeded University of Louisiana Monroe on April 23. The Monarchs were defeated 4.5-0.5 in match play.

The Monarchs advanced to the semifinals after finishing tied for fourth place with Coastal Carolina in the final round of stroke play and then winning a two-team playoff against the Chanticleers. In the semifinal, Barbara Car, who won this year’s individual championship, faced Anna Andrysova from ULM. Both players finished tied after Car made par putts on the last two holes while Andrysova bogeyed them.

In other matches, Puneet Bajwa played Daniela Campillo Martinez and narrowed her deficit late in their round but ultimately lost 2&1 as Campillo Martinez made a birdie on hole 16 and held par through hole 17. Mariana Arronte led briefly against Johanna Sjursen after three consecutive birdies but lost control following several bogeys, resulting in a 3&2 win for Sjursen.

Alina Shchepteva competed against Emma Lucrezia Manzini and was unable to overcome an early deficit despite winning one hole; Manzini maintained her lead and secured victory by five holes with four remaining. Ludovica Girola’s match against Zoe McLean-Tattan saw momentum shift multiple times before being left unfinished with McLean-Tattan one up through fifteen holes.

The result concludes Old Dominion’s participation in this season’s Sun Belt Championship.
