Old Dominion University’s men’s tennis team will play Gardner-Webb in the first round of the NCAA Tournament, according to an April 27 announcement. The match is scheduled for May 1 at 2 p.m. in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.

The matchup marks Old Dominion’s fourth consecutive appearance in the NCAA tournament. If the Monarchs win against Gardner-Webb, they will advance to play either top seed Wake Forest or Navy.

Old Dominion secured its place in the tournament after winning its fourth-straight Sun Belt Conference Championship on April 19. Freshman Zech Hamrouni clinched the victory for ODU by defeating his opponent from Troy on court five with scores of 6-1, 5-7, and 6-2. He is also noted as the third consecutive freshman to secure a conference championship for Old Dominion.

The Monarchs currently hold a season record of 20 wins and six losses. They are among only twenty-nine teams nationwide to qualify for four straight NCAA tournaments.

Looking ahead, Old Dominion aims to build on its recent success as it enters national competition.
