Old Dominion University women’s rower Madeleine Enns has been named the Big 12 Conference’s Co-Scholar-Athlete of the Year, sharing the honor with Anna Lackner from Tulsa, according to a May 21 announcement by the conference.

The recognition highlights academic and athletic excellence among student-athletes in the Big 12. Enns, who competes as part of Old Dominion’s first varsity eight team, maintains a 3.9 grade point average while studying biomedical science. She is also active in leadership roles on campus through her involvement with the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and community service initiatives.

Enns has contributed significantly to Old Dominion Monarchs rowing team’s outreach efforts, helping them log more community service hours than any other collegiate rowing program in the country. Her dedication extends beyond athletics into academics and civic engagement.

The Big 12 also announced other annual awards for rowing: Brigitte Kappler from UCF was named Rower of the Year; Madison Lovejoy from UCF received Newcomer of the Year; and Mara Allen from UCF was selected as Coach of the Year.

These honors reflect both individual achievement and broader team contributions within collegiate rowing. The announcement underscores continued commitment to excellence among student-athletes at Old Dominion and across programs recognized by the Big 12.
