Old Dominion University secured a Sun Belt Conference sweep over Georgia Southern on April 19, winning the final game of the series and improving their record to 20-19 overall and 8-10 in conference play.
The win is significant for Old Dominion as it strengthens their position in the Sun Belt standings and extends their lead in the all-time series against Georgia Southern to 10-7.
The Monarchs started strong with Zedalis hitting a two-run home run off the left-field foul pole in the first inning, marking his third homer of both the series and past two days. Stallings followed immediately with a solo shot down the right-field line, giving Old Dominion an early 3-0 advantage. The Eagles threatened in several innings but were held back by key defensive plays, including a double play turned by McKenna after his earlier fielding error allowed a run.
On offense, Stallings went 2-for-3 with his eighth home run of the season and drove in two runs. Johnson contributed by going 2-for-4 with a run scored, while Leite doubled, scored twice, and collected one RBI. Tyler Stott earned his second win of the year after allowing just one unearned run over three-and-a-third innings without issuing any walks. Sulpizio recorded a save by pitching three innings and striking out three batters.
Over the course of the series, Old Dominion’s offense hit .307 as a team while outscoring Georgia Southern 21-12. The Monarchs’ pitchers posted a combined earned run average of 3.21 with twenty-six strikeouts across seventeen walks while holding opposing hitters to an average below .300.
Looking ahead, Old Dominion will conclude its homestand on Tuesday when they host East Carolina for another matchup at home.
